About the Reading Plan
This reading plan is based on The Great Adventure Bible Timeline, an innovative method developed by Jeff Cavins to help readers understand the entire story of salvation history.
The Great Adventure Bible Timeline Approach:
It highlights 14 key narrative books that form the foundation of the biblical story, with the remaining books providing essential context and details.
The Bible is divided into 12 distinct time periods, each marked by a unique color, serving as “chapters” in salvation history.
How to Use This Plan
This reading plan takes you through the entire Catholic Bible in one year, aligning with the podcast episodes. Each day, Fr. Mike will guide you through 2-3 Scripture passages related to the 12 historical periods of the Bible Timeline. The readings in bold indicate the primary narrative books.
To support your spiritual journey, Psalms and Proverbs are spread throughout the year, offering daily opportunities for reflection and prayer. Passages in italics highlight special connections to the day’s readings.

The Bible in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz)
Fr. Mike Schmitz serves as Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese of Duluth and as Chaplain for the Newman Catholic Campus Ministry at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
He is well known for his popular YouTube videos, which are released weekly on the Ascension Presents YouTube channel, and he also streams Sunday Mass to a worldwide audience. In addition to hosting the first complete Catholic Bible in a Year podcast, he is also a presenter in Ascension’s Chosen, Altaration, and The 99 programs, as well as a contributing author to Pray, Decide, and Don’t Worry: Five Steps for Discerning God’s Will.
